We are a relatively new brand of indie writers and creators. Our big idea is to be what indie punk rock labels were for garage bands back in the day, but for indie writers of today. The garage bands of the literary world. We want to be the ones who nuture Nirvana's first novel, Green Day's first short story book, and we're trying to get NoFX to drop their Zine through us... You get the picture, right?
It's grassroots, it's exciting, and we don't have no rules round these parts, so it's whatever goes... You know how mainstream music becamse shaped to this whittled down formula, resulting in the fact that 90% of the songs from the radio over the last 15 years have sounded almost identical? That's what happens without indie publishing, without adventurous nothing-to-lose makers of cool stuff. You hear that argument like "Yes, but if the big mainstream publishers are making lots of money, it gives them freedom to pursue more creative and experimental things..."
Ha. With what? The kindness of their hearts? They just kind of go, Hey, halt the money-making for a minute, we've made enough... Let's try something new...
News flash - they only take safe bets, and if they're signing up risky bets, it ain't to experiment and push boundaries, it's most likely for tax purposes, or something equally as yawnworthy.
So why get social with Up & Up? We have nothing to lose. And we have some exciting stuff coming up.
Soon, submissions will open for a new compilation book, showcasing all the talent of Australian inide authors. At least 20 short stories by various authors of Sci-Fi and Fantasy.
